The Giner Factory Complex revives a 19th-century industrial colony for tourism
A FACTORY OF EXPERIENCES AND DEVELOPMENT
Just 4 kilometres from Morella, on the CV 14 road, next to the Bergantes River, stands the old Giner Factory. An industrial colony dedicated to textiles from the mid-19th century until the second decade of the 20th century. This factory follows the Catalan industrial colony model, in which workers had housing, a school and a chapel next to the factory.
The factory's first registered name dates back to 1844 with the Giner i Guimerá brothers, who purchased the Zurita Mill, which was essential for the factory's operation. In 1877, Vicenta Guimerá Rocafort, mother of Juan Giner, an enterprising woman and leading figure in the factory, passed away. Between 1870 and 1876, the main buildings of the factory complex were constructed. In 1871, an 80-horsepower steam engine was put into operation, in 1885 a 40-metre-high chimney was built, and in 1896 there were 121 people registered at the factory, with around 400 people working there directly and indirectly. In 1904, 40 steam looms were in operation.
Juan Giner Guimerá died in 1907, leaving the factory to his daughters Pilar and Dolores Giner Carpa until 1926, when it closed down for good, with 46 looms in operation at the time. This company always concentrated all stages of the production process in the same place: scalding, washing and carding the wool, spinning, dyeing and weaving, as well as the finishing and final starching of the fabric.
Since the 1990s, significant renovation work has been carried out on the site and new services and activities have been created: hostel, rural guest house, swimming pool, adventure circuit, mountain biking, sports area, landscaped areas, children's playgrounds, etc.
One of the main attractions of the complex is SALTAPINS, a multi-adventure circuit for enjoying nature with Tibetan bridges, lianas, logs, pirate nets and zip lines up to 100 metres long. Located among pine trees, the park has different adventure circuits for adults and children.
Between 2018 and 2019, various industrial buildings were renovated and the Morella and Els Ports Tourism Training and Innovation Centre was created. This centre is the first inland CdT (Tourism Training Centre) of Turisme Comunitat Valenciana to promote tourism development in rural areas and is set to become a space for socio-economic development in the Els Ports region.
SALTAPINS ADVENTURE PARK
Saltapins is located in the forest area of the Giner Factory Complex. It is a space dedicated to leisure and active entertainment, where participants have to complete a series of aerial challenges installed high up in the trees using cables and wooden platforms.
These platforms are accessed via wooden ladders and bridges. Once we reach the platform, the different attractions take us from one pine tree to another, balancing on cables, crossing different types of bridges, hanging from vines or launching ourselves down long zip lines.
The platforms are between 2 and 17 metres high. Adventure circuits are therefore a set of activities related to the mountains and nature in general, combining positive skills such as dexterity, balance, confidence, endurance, strength, etc., always with MAXIMUM SAFETY and whose main objective is the participation of children, young people and adults in a basic level sporting activity.
FRANCESC DE VINATEA HOSTEL
The Francesc de Vinatea hostel is located in the tourist complex of the old Giner Factory. It occupies the building that housed the married workers in the industrial colony.
The Giner Factory complex is surrounded by beautiful scenery with playgrounds, a summer swimming pool, tennis courts, walking areas, parking and green areas next to the river.
The Saltapins adventure park is right there.
It has three floors and capacity for 60 people. Downstairs is the living-dining room, kitchen and bathrooms; on the first floor there are six bedrooms and bathrooms; and on the second floor there are four bedrooms and bathrooms. Each bedroom sleeps between four and ten people.
You will need to bring your own towels and toiletries. Pillows and thin blankets are provided. Sheets are available for hire. Showers and toilets are shared.
There is a TV and games in the dining room. It is ideal for hikers, groups, families, schools, language learning camps, associations, etc.

RURAL TOURISM CASA JULIÁN
Former gatehouse of the Giner Factory. Completely restored and with capacity for 6 people, it is equipped with all amenities: Wi-Fi, central heating, garage, garden with furniture and barbecue.
